Real-life tornado chasers

Those who've watched Twister probably found the specal effects of the movie to be breath taking but you're probably also wondering if there really are tornado chasers. Yes, there are and their showing off the fruits of their labor in National Geographic, a feat that it refers to as a "technological first." The first video is pretty boring but the subsequent videos will really take your breath away. They take some time to load but they are definitely worth it.

A well-placed probe fitted with 7 video cameras—6 with a 60-degree field-of-view designed to achieve a full 360-degree field-of-view (one failed during deployment, resulting in a 300-degree field-of-view) and one pointing upward—captures footage inside a tornado, providing visual data on ground wind speeds where the storm does the greatest damage. And Tim Samaras with his team of storm chasers are there to make it happen.

Caveman goes shopping

LONDON -- This image released by the British Museum shows a hoax cave painting of a primitive man pushing a supermarket trolley which was on display in the British Museum. The work was planted by an anonymous "art terrorist" called Banksy and museum staff were after he put a message on his website, saying that the 10in by 6in rock "had remained in the collection for quite some time." This is not the first time Banksy has stuck fake objects to gallery walls and waited to see how long it takes before curators notice.

Coldplay singer unsure why many hate band

With some 20 million albums sold worldwide, it's clear Coldplay has its share of fans. What surprises singer Chris Martin is all the people who actively hate the band.

Coldplay doesn't inspire much ambivalence.

"Everyone tells me it's very healthy," Martin recently told the Associated Press. "It's very depressing, but it's very healthy. We always have this bubbling level of vitriol."

The Bum Deal

No bums on buses, please, we're British. Damaris Evans is about to advertise her gorgeously saucy, bottom cleavage-revealing pants in bus ads - but she had to retouch the photos first. "The Mayor of London's office wouldn't let us show any bum cracks," she laughs. "So we had to move the ribbons so they hang straight down the centre. I still think it will look gorgeous though - this sexy bottom driving off on the back of a London bus."

The machine that can copy anything

A revolutionary machine that can copy itself and manufacture everyday objects quickly and cheaply could transform industry in the developing world, according to its creator.

The "self-replicating rapid prototyper," or "RepRap" is the brainchild of Dr. Adrian Bowyer, a senior lecturer in mechanical engineering at the University of Bath in the UK.

It is based on rapid prototyping technology commonly used to manufacturer plastic components in industry from computer-generated blueprints -- effectively a form of 3D printer.

Osama Bin Laden Lighter

The Osama bin Laden cigarette lighter is adorned with his raised, chrome portrait, an embossed "9-11", sketches of the New York World Trade Center, an approaching airplane, and a big red splotch. When you flick the sleek, metal lighter open, a light-emitting diode illuminates the splotch so it glows bright red on one of the buildings, emphasizing the site of the first crash. Loud, computerized music beeps out a loop of Mozart.

Drink Up! Boozeheads Gather to Get Soused

The six men teetered down a sidewalk along a seedy Denver street, their maroon fezzes embroidered with two swords and a martini glass tilting wildly under the street lights. "Drink up, boozehead!" roared one as the group headed for a bar in a proud display of drunken solidarity.

Sounds like a rallying cry for a bachelor party, a guy's night out, maybe a bunch of fraternity guys horsing around. But for the revelers at Modern Drunkard magazine's annual convention the cheer sums up a philosophy on life.
